As part of the renovation of a historic YWCA building in South St. Louis—converted into a mixed-use residential and office space—we were commissioned to redesign and fabricate the main stair railings.
The original stair system featured an aluminum top rail with enclosed fiberglass side panels. We restored and reused the original aluminum top rails wherever possible, preserving the building’s character. In place of the solid panels, we fabricated continuous parallel rails from round aluminum tubing, running cleanly and consistently beneath the handrail for a more open, modern profile. Damaged posts were replicated and replaced to match the existing system. All tubing was rolled and bent in-house, installed on site, and finished in a brushed aluminum finish that complements the building’s updated interior while respecting its history.
