BMW R75/6 Paint Restoration

Bringing a well-used airhead back to better-than-factory black

This BMW R75/6 came to us with a tank that had seen decades of use. Rust had crept through the steel, leaving pitting and pinholes that couldn’t be ignored. We stripped the tank inside and out to bare metal, repaired the damaged steel, and sealed the interior to protect it long term. The exterior was finished in epoxy primer to lock everything down before paint.

The fenders and side covers were also taken back to bare material, corrected where needed, and prepped for refinishing. We repainted the full set in the original black with white double pinstripes, following the stock BMW layout. The stripes were hand-masked and painted before clearcoat to keep the lines sharp and true to the era.

We finished the side covers with reproduction BMW decals and installed new BMW tank badges to complete the restoration. The result is a clean, factory-correct R75/6 finish that respects the original design while addressing the structural issues underneath.
